What do I mean by that? Well, we're now well into the 21st century, and one of the last great gold rushes occurred just over 100 years ago in Canada's Yukon Territory: the Klondike Gold Rush (1898-99). The similarities between the rush for gold then and the rush for internet wealth today are too many and too 'rich' to ignore.
Though this infamous, yet still fabulous gold rush in the Yukon only lasted about two years, gold has been mined continuously in that area ever since, except for a hiatus in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
According to Wikipedia, the climate in the Yukon is exceedingly severe - very hot and humid in the short summer, and extremely cold during the long winter. For seven months of the year, intense cold prevails, varied by furious snow storms which begin in September and occur at intervals until May. By October 20, ice is formed over all the rivers. The ground for the better part of the year is frozen to the depth of from 3 to 10 feet.
So how does this compare to online wealth building?
I think you get it already. The internet has been around for barely two decades, and marketing on the web has developed in a fast and furious manner, creating countless instant millionaires from those who were first to see the motherlode, yet there are many who could still profit from what continues to be mined to this day.
In internet marketing, the competition can be exceedingly severe, depending on your niche - very hot and heavy during launches, and barely less so in between. For months, perhaps years, while you are trying to figure out how to make it work, you feel unduly stressed, with little or no income, yet inundated with an overflow of information and new "must-have" products which begins in the New Year and occurs at continuous intervals until year-end. By the time you catch your breath and hear the echo of your inner self screaming: "what the hell am I doing?", a chill has settled over all your creative, intuitive beginnings. The landscape before you looks barren and unforgiving. Your bank account has an unsettling imbalance between credit and debit.
Sound familiar? It doesn't have to be that way. Look, let me lay it on the line for you. I'm at an age when I should be thinking of retiring. But some days I feel like I'm just getting started. You see, internet marketing, like the gold rush, is really a business for the young at heart. I'm talking about the really young at heart. If you're in your 20s or 30s then this is the business you should be maybe considering. Or at least a part of it.
